2007 Seminar

The 2007 Annual Seminar at the Mandalay Beach Resort and Hotel in the beautiful City of Oxnard was an outstanding success. Over 400 attendees representing over 200 cities and counties participated in CACEO’s most successful event. The event was kicked off by a reception on Wednesday evening allowing people to pick up their registration materials, which included a CD of handouts that replaced the traditional binder, a CACEO T-shirt, bottled water from the City of Oxnard, customized notepads, hand sanitizer, and lip balm. Attendees also grabbed a quick bite to eat and enjoyed networking with their peers. Thursday was overflowing with educational opportunities, including a keynote presentation by author and motivational speaker Anne Bruce. Participants were welcomed by City of Oxnard Mayor Dr. Tom Holden, comments by Assembly Member Jose Solorio and an update on the State of CACEO by CACEO Lobbyist John Lovell and CACEO Executive Director Catherine Smith.

Educational offerings included, Developing a Rental Inspection Program, Supervisory Skills, Technology for Code Enforcement, and Building and Housing Codes. The full day was concluded poolside with a reception and music from Conjunto Hueyapan, an acoustic local band who have performed at the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and President Reagan’s 1985 inaugural ball. Friday was equally as brimming with the day beginning at 7 a.m. for Coffee with a Cop. Other topics included Post Safety Assessment, Working in Indian Country, Mold & Asbestos Awareness, Authentic Leadership, Human Resources, and Legal Updates.

Attendees also had the opportunity to conduct business with 15 exhibiting companies during the conference. Participation of the exhibitors helps to offset many of the costs associated with hosting an event such as the Annual Seminar. We appreciated their investment in CACEO and encourage you to visit their websites by clicking any of the logos on the side bar of this page.

Annual Seminar Chair Dirk Voss said, “[I heard] comments such as ‘best seminar I've ever been to’ to ‘the seminar exceeded my expectations’ and a number of instructors desiring to come back next year. This was not the result of one person or a person’s role, but rather [a desire] to raise the "quality" bar, provide great customer service, and to let the membership know that we are there for them!!” For anyone that attended the Annual Seminar, we encourage you to take 5 minutes of your time to give us your feedback and complete an evaluation of the speakers and event by clicking here [Link to evaluation here]. We will use your comments and suggestions to plan future seminars. For anyone seeking handouts from the seminar, you may download any one of the many that are available by visiting the Annual Seminar Handouts webpage.

Mark you calendars for next year, when CACEO will meet in Tahoe at the Embassy Suites South Lake Tahoe, October 7 – 9, 2008.
